Month after month, educators met incredible challenges head-on. With courage, determination, and resilience, we continued to do what we do—help students to live into their magnificent brilliance, no matter what.
During this historic time, we also navigated a return to school buildings and shouldered burnout while battling ongoing disrespect for our expertise and our profession.
Perhaps my 30-plus years as a middle school science teacher makes me solutions-oriented, but I believe celebrating what we’ve accomplished together will sustain us for the challenges that lie ahead.
And we have accomplished so much this year—together.
Our team compiled a list of 50 wins in 2021—one for every state. Some are big. Some are small. And that’s the whole point—to celebrate what we accomplished together no matter the size.
From passing the American Rescue Plan—the largest investment in education in U.S. history—and finally reforming Public Service Loan Forgiveness, to winning a new contract in Kootenai, Idaho for the first time in seven years, there is so much for us to celebrate.
As we head into winter break and set our intentions for the new year, I want to thank you for being a part of our NEA family.
Whether you are a first-year educator, seasoned veteran, or the parent of a public school student, we are stronger when we are together.
Happy holidays.
