Public Schools Week starts tomorrow. A congressional resolution celebrating the event delivers this message: Strengthening public schools strengthens America. I would like to add my personal thanks to the educators who work tirelessly for my children and all our students—nowadays, too often in the face of difficult and unfair circumstances.
On President’s Day, NEA President Becky Pringle will join Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, House Education and Labor Committee Chairman Bobby Scott (D-VA), and other education advocates for a webinar at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time. You can register for it and related events here.
I encourage you to email your senators and representative and urge them to co-sponsor the bipartisan resolution, as well as a bipartisan bill to make teacher residency programs more affordable and accessible.
President Biden is expected to announce his Supreme Court nominee (to replace retiring Justice Breyer) this week. All the reported candidates are exceptionally well qualified judges, and all are Black women whose lived experience will broaden the court’s perspective and give voice to a range of views reflective of today’s America.
In solidarity,
