During the final weeks of the 118th Congress, NEA remains focused on:
GPO/WEP REPEAL—As part of a final push for Senate passage of the Social Security Fairness Act (S. 597), the bill’s congressional champions will join NEA and labor and retirement groups for a rally on Capitol Hill this Wednesday. In addition, we’re asking you to call your senators and urge final passage now!
JUDICIAL NOMINATIONS—Federal judges serve for life, and they can have a BIG impact on issues that matter to us, including public education, civil rights, and workers’ rights. Tell senators to confirm EVERY judge nominated by President Biden before it’s too late.
RURAL SCHOOLS—The Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program helps support schools, roads, and other municipal services in more than 700 counties in 41 states and Puerto Rico. SRS made its last authorized payment in April 2024. The Senate has extended the program, but the House still must act. Tell representatives to pass the Secure Rural Schools Reauthorization Act of 2023 (S. 2581).
INDIAN BOARDING SCHOOLS—Hundreds of thousands of American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian children were forced to enroll and assimilate in government- and church-run boarding schools. Many died, went missing, or were murdered; survivors were often the victims of abuse. Tell Congress to pass the Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policies Act (S. 1723) to help bring a measure of justice to tribal citizens and nations.
Contact your elected representatives today!

The commission would help to fully reveal the impact of the boarding schools on the Native American children who were taken from their families and Tribes for forced assimilation.
