The GOP-led Congress is frantic to fulfill President Trump’s wish to have the budget reconciliation bill on his desk by July 4.
The Senate modified some provisions of the bill passed by the House just before Memorial Day. But the core purpose is unchanged: more tax breaks for the ultra-rich, less support for children and working families.
Here’s the big picture, by the numbers.
• 16 million people lose health coverage—7.8 million due to new Medicaid work requirements, 4.2 million because enhanced ACA premiums expire, and 4 million due to other ACA marketplace cuts.
• 8 million households, including 2.5 million children, are at risk of losing nutrition assistance due to new Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) work requirements. When families lose eligibility for SNAP, students’ access to free school meals is also at risk.
While negotiations over the bill continue, Senate passage is imminent—maybe before you read this email. The final House vote is expected this week—just in time to fulfill President Trump’s wish.
Tell Congress what you think!
